Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the side of the house.

The fire department confirms no one was inside the home at the time, but there were a dozen pets in the house, including three dogs, two turtles and seven chinchillas.

“Firefighters mounted a quick interior attack and quickly brought the fire under control,” reads a release. “The home sustained significant fire damage to the main floor, smoke damage to the main and second floors, and no fire damage to the basement.”

Two of the dogs and the seven chinchillas died as a result of the fire. The third dog was rushed to an emergency vet clinic and is expected to survive. The two turtles also survived.

None of the responding firefighters were injured.

Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen of the home and it is not considered suspicious. There were working smoke alarms inside the house.
