Sunny, warm weekend ahead before weather turns next week

A warm and sunny weekend ahead will give Calgarians the chance to plan some fun in the sun and catch up on gardening and home chores. Henna Saeed finds out how people are making the most of the good weather.

A weekend of spring weather is expected to give Calgarians the chance for some fun in the sun and catch up on gardening and home chores, but unfortunately the favourable conditions won’t last long.

The city is expecting plenty of sunny skies and warmth this weekend. Some residents tell CityNews they plan to enjoy the serenity of nature and mountains, while others might rush to a patio, and some are aiming to catch up on gardening.

“I am going to get a jump on my yard work,” says one resident.

“I’m going to be planning on changing my winter tires, and throw my summer tires on,” says another.

“Drinks with friends for sure,” added one person walking their dog. “Probably walk him around here more if it’s nice.”

Friday saw a peek-a-boo between the sun and cloud all day, but it will be warmer on the weekend with an expected high of 17 C on Saturday, and 18 C on Sunday.

The warm weekend will give many Calgarians and visitors a sunny chance to explore the mountains.

“We came from Kitchener, Ontario, and we’re here to see a friend for his birthday 60th Birthday,” says a visitor. “And then we’re going to do some touring around.”

But before anyone thinks the sunny spell is here to stay, a stark reminder to Calgarians that mother nature is still calling the shots, with some forecasters calling for light snow and a rain spell early next week.

Snow possible early next week

Early forecasts suggest snow will fall Monday into Tuesday, though it will likely be too warm for much of it to stick around on the ground.

Despite this, Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Shelley says motorists in Southern Alberta should still be prepared for changing conditions.
