Mounties in Cochrane say the slow moving traffic on Highway 1 west of Calgary caused by an apparent carbon tax protest has been cleared.
The slow down happened on Highway 1 between Jumping Pound Road and Highway 22 Friday and continued Saturday until abour 9 a.m.
Police say about four or five vehicles took up highway lanes and driving at slower speeds.
Cpl. Gina Slaney tells CityNews it’s not confirmed, but it is believed that carbon tax protesters are behind the slow downs.
The RCMP urged drivers to use caution in that area as they try and resolve the matter.
Demonstrators snarled traffic on Highway 1 for much of the day on Apr. 1 in response to the increase to the federal carbon tax.
The event, organized by a group called Nationwide Protest Against Carbon Tax, was just one of many that took place across the country that day.
