Calgary police investigate firearms complaint at SW home

By CityNews Staff

Calgary police officers were at a southwest home near Chinook Mall Sunday for a possible armed individual.

Staff Sgt John Guigon tells CityNews they got a call about a person with a firearm in a home on the 600 block of 68 Avenue and 5 Street at around 1 p.m.

Over a dozen officers were on the scene, and he says the presence is there to err on the side of caution as they investigate.

He says police asked the residents to exit the home to investigate, but that there was, ultimately, “much ado about nothing.”

“There was a verbal altercation between two parties and some misinformation to the police,” Guigon said.

He says it was a dispute between neighbours, and there might be an investigation of mischief with the call.

No injuries have been reported at this time, and no shots have been fired.
