Calgary gets new brand slogan, bids farewell to ‘be part of the energy’

Calgary Economic Development revealed the new slogan on Wednesday afternoon during a report to the community at the TELUS Convention Centre.

The City of Calgary has a new brand….’Blue Sky City.’

Calgary Economic Development revealed the new slogan on Wednesday afternoon during a report to the community at the TELUS Convention Centre.

“The new brand tells a story about Calgary being a city of blue-sky thinking and innovation, a place of unexpected possibilities and a place of confluence — where peoples, lands, cultures and ideas converge,” reads a release from Calgary Economic Development.

It also references Calgary being the sunniest city in Canada, with 333 days of sunshine a year, the agency says.

The latest branding replaces ‘Calgary: Be Part of the Energy,’ which had been in use for nearly a decade.

The agency says research suggested the previous brand did not represent all Calgarians and contributed to a “one-dimensional view” that non-Albertans have towards the city.

“To create a more inclusive and representative brand for the city, the business community, government, equity-deserving communities, Indigenous communities, youth groups, not-for-profits, community associations and arts groups were engaged in the process,” reads the release.

“This engagement was inclusive of a broad range of individuals, taking into account age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and geographic location.”

More than 129 organizations were consulted on the change.

A logo is expected to be released in the coming months.
