Man charged with manslaughter in death of 2-year-old girl in SE Calgary

Police have arrested and laid charges against a man in connection with the death of a toddler in southeast Calgary more than a year-and-a-half ago.

Police have arrested and laid charges against a man in connection with the death of a toddler in southeast Calgary more than a year-and-a-half ago.

Calgary police say officers were called to a home on Bannister Manor SE, near Bannister Road and 146 Avenue SE, in the early morning hours of Sept. 29, 2022, for reports of a toddler in distress.

A two-year-old girl was rushed to hospital with critical injuries where she was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as Olivia Hayden from Calgary.

The death was deemed a homicide after an autopsy was completed, according to CPS.

Police arrested a man on Wednesday following “an extensive investigation” by the Homicide Unit.

On Thursday, police identified the man charged as 45-year-old Winston Campbell.

He is facing one count of manslaughter and is set to appear in court on Friday.

Investigators say the suspect and victim were known to each other.
