Suspect broke in to same Canmore home 2 days in a row: RCMP

A Canmore man is facing charges after allegedly breaking in to the same home two days in a row.

Canmore RCMP say a homeowner walked into their home on Lincoln Park on Tuesday to find a male suspect inside the home.

Police say the owner chased the man on foot and alerted officers who were able to locate and arrest the him after a brief foot pursuit.

Further investigation revealed the same suspect entered the same home the previous day and it was determined the he had been involved in rental fraud investigations in Canmore dating back to 2018.

It is alleged the suspect would place ads on Kijiji to rent out a property and when someone sent a damage deposit he would cut off communication with them. When the victim went to the property they thought they were renting it would be occupied by someone else.

Canmore resident Dayne Keith Hoknes, 41, is facing four charges including two counts of break and enter and resisting arrest. Hoknes had seven outstanding warrants, and one each in Banff and Chestermere.

He will appear in a Canmore courtroom next week.
