Two people are facing 90 charges for their alleged role in a fraud network operating out of a northwest Calgary home, police say.

In October 2023, investigators learned of people thought to be involved in a large fraud operation in the city, following a series of local and interprovincial break and enters.

Police believe the suspects targeted storage lockers, motel officers, and other commercial establishments to steal identification documents, banking information, and other monetary goods.

The suspects would then bring the stolen items to a home on Bowview Road NW and use computers, printers, and equipment to make fraudulent identification and cheques for the purpose of committing fraud, according to police.

Officers searched that home on Thursday, May 2, and seized 28 items including identification documents, tax information, electronic devices used for printing fake I.D.’s, and two vehicles identified as being obtained in a fraudulent matter.

Susan Jane Hillier is facing dozens of charges, including 19 counts of possessing identity documents, 13 counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and nine counts of identity theft.

The 41-year-old is set to appear in court on Monday, May 27.

Brian Michael Bischke is also facing numerous charges, among them are eight counts of making and possession identity documents and eight counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.

The 43-year-old is scheduled to be in court on Tuesday, May 21.

Anyone who has suffered a financial loss or had their personal information compromised because of fraud is asked to report it to the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.

Those who have received fraudulent text messages, email, or phone calls but haven’t lost money are encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
