One person is dead after a crash involving a motorcycle west of Calgary on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to Lower Springbank Road and Township Road 242, just west of Stoney Trail, around 3:30 p.m. for a serious collision.
RCMP say the driver of the bike, a 75-year-old from Rocky View County, died at the scene.
Lower Springbank Road was closed in both directions and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Police say the road reopened around 7:15 a.m. Friday.
Though the investigation is ongoing, RCMP say early findings suggest a motorcycle was trying to pass a vehicle and while merging back in, clipped the vehicle.
This resulted in the loss of control of the motorcycle.
