Calgary police have released a photo of a man they believe is responsible for running over a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash last month.

Emergency crews responded to a gas station parking lot near Memorial Drive NE and 4th Street NE in Bridgeland around 2:45 p.m. on Apr. 27.

Investigators believe a pedestrian fell down and was lying in the lot when a minivan reversed out of a parking stall before pulling forward and turning northbound onto 4 Street NE.

According to police, the driver stopped and opened his door to look around after running over the man with the front wheels of the van. He then closed the door and ran over the pedestrian again with the rear wheels.

Investigators say it is likely the driver was unaware they ran over someone.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious life-altering injuries. In an update, police said the victim was in serious but stable condition.

In an update on Wednesday, police describe the driver as a 20 to 25-year-old man with a slim build and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing a black and white Nike hoodie.

Police previously released a security photo of the van they believe was involved in the crash. The vehicle is described as an older-model Honda Odyssey.
