Calgary is getting a new outdoor concert venue

Calgary will soon have a brand new outdoor concert venue.

The new stage is being built at Spruce Meadows and they’ll be opening next month with a concert featuring country singers Jess Moskaluke, George Canyon and Steven Lee Olsen.

The stage is expected to be finished by the first of the month with the concert planned for June 15 and 16 during the ‘National’ show-jumping event.

Spruce Meadows CEO and President Linda Southern-Heathcott says they will be featuring military bands and international acts during other tournaments, but it’s still early when it comes to booking the stage.

“We’re going to see how it works, we’re going to get feedback from the artists and feedback from the fans,” she says. “We’re going to grow into this space to create something really special.”

The new stage development is part of the venue’s plans for its 50th anniversary next year, which will include an upscale restaurant and coffee shop.

Spruce Meadows first opened in the 1970s and is considered one of the premier outdoor equestrian venues in the world. The now multi-purpose facility is also home to the Cavalry FC soccer team.
