Frost advisory issued for Calgary ahead of overnight temperature drop

Environment Canada is out with a frost advisory for the City of Calgary with temperatures expected to approach a record-low overnight.

The weather agency issued the advisory on Monday afternoon — it warns frost could damage some crops as clearing skies combine with a “cold airmass.”

“Take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees,” the advisory reads. “Patchy frost is expected.”

The advisory is also in place for Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, Sundre and the Red Deer and Rocky Mountain House areas.

The current forecast has the overnight low in Calgary at 3 C, which is just off the record-low of 1.7 C for June 17. That record was set back in 1902.

The first day of summer is Thursday.
