Alberta Sheriffs shut down alleged SW Calgary drug house

Alberta Sheriffs have shut down another problem property in Calgary after repeated visits by police, the province said Thursday.

Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers visited the house at 499 Bracewood Crescent SW 20 times last year for various types of calls including suspicious vehicles, a house fire, and stolen property.

In June 2023, two people were found dead in the house after a suspected drug overdose, and in September, another person was also found dead in the home of a suspected overdose.

On Dec. 29, 2023, CPS executed a search warrant at the property and found items consistent with drug trafficking, the province said.

The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) unit has got a court order against the owner of the house, allowing it to close the property for 88 days starting Thursday morning.

Any tenancy agreement or lease is also terminated as of Thursday, meaning that anyone living there has to leave.

The province says the community safety order received in Court of King’s Bench, prohibits people from being on the property until the closure order lifts on Sept. 23.

The house will be boarded up and fenced, and all of the locks will be changed.

Members of the SCAN unit will continue to monitor the property for any activity as the investigation is ongoing.
