A Calgary man is facing several gun charges after police searched a home in the city’s northwest last month.

Calgary police say they began investigating a suspect on May 24 who they believed was carelessly storing weapons.

The investigation led to officers executing a search warrant at a home near Beddington Boulevard and Bermuda Drive NW.

During the search, police seized five rifles, five shotguns, a taser, a firearm silencer, overcapacity magazines loaded with live rounds, and more than 1,700 rounds of loose ammunition.

“In this case, information from the public and solid police work resulted in the seizure of dangerous firearms and weapons that could have easily ended up in the wrong hands,” said Acting Insp. Scott Neilson in a police release.

“This is a prime example of the importance of community involvement in proactive policing. If you see something, say something; timely reporting of suspicious activity can make all the difference.”

On June 17, police charged 27-year-old Pierre-Luc Brassard with nine counts of careless storage of a firearm and one count of possession of a prohibited device. Brassard was also charged with one count of making violent threats in a separate incident.

He’s expected to appear in court on July 9.
