Man dead after falling from equipment during Canada Day parade: Alberta RCMP

By The Canadian Press

RCMP say Canada Day celebrations led to tragedy in a small northern Alberta community.

Mounties say a 45-year-old man was fatally injured during Monday’s parade in La Crete.

They say the man from Mackenzie County fell off the equipment he was throwing candy from.

Officers from Fort Vermilion were dispatched to assist emergency services.

Police are offering condolences to friends and family of the man who died.

La Crete is a hamlet of about 2,900 people located 670 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

This is a corrected story. A previous version implied the parade happened in Fort Vermilion.
