Man dies after being hit by transit bus in SE Calgary

Calgary police say a man has died after being hit by a transit bus overnight in the city’s southeast.

Investigators say the pedestrian was hit at 17 Avenue and 44 Street SE just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police believe the bus was driving westbound on 17 Avenue SE and was crossing 44 Street SE on a green traffic signal when an 18-year-old man was also diagonally cross the the street.

The pedestrian was declared dead on scene, despite life-saving efforts by first responders.

The driver of the bus stayed at the scene and wasn’t hurt, according to police, and none of the passengers on the bus reported any injuries.

Speed and alcohol aren’t considered factors in the incident.

The intersection was shut down for almost five hours for the investigation.
