Red Deer father charged with assault after young child seriously injured

A father from Red Deer is facing charges after allegedly assaulting and injuring his child.
RCMP began investigating on June 20 after getting word of a young child in hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators determined the child’s injuries were consistent with assault and, after further consultation, arrested the child’s father on June 27.
Police say a 27-year-old Red Deer resident is facing three charges including aggravated assault, failure to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence.
The accused appeared before court and has been released on conditions.
RCMP are not identifying the suspect to protect the victim’s identity.
