NW Calgary YMCA evacuated due to ammonia leak, second time this week

For the second time this week, patrons at a northwest Calgary YMCA have been forced to evacuate due to an ammonia leak.

Calgary Fire tells CityNews660 about 180 people were asked to leave the Rocky Ridge YMCA just before 10 a.m. Friday because an ammonia alarm was going off in the arena area.

Fire hazmat crews are on the scene.

They say no one was hurt and there is no need to call EMS.

On Wednesday, about 250 people had to leave the building after an ammonia alarm went off in the arena’s mechanical room. A technician was called in to repair the problem.

Patrons were allowed back in a little more than an hour later.

This is a developing story.
