Severe thunderstorm watch ends for Calgary
Calgary dodged some severe weather late Tuesday after meteorologists warned thunderstorms could develop over the city late in the day.
A severe thunderstorm watch that was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has now ended for the City of Calgary and surrounding areas.
The watch was in place for most of the afternoon and early evening and warned of storms that could bring “strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain” along with intense lightning.

It was lifted just before 8:30 p.m.
Areas to the west of Calgary were under severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the afternoon as meteorologists tracked systems that they said could bring toonie-size hail.
The areas under the warnings included Canmore, Exshaw, Ghost Lake and Cochrane. The warnings were lifted around 5 p.m.
A heat warning remains for large parts of Alberta, including Calgary, where ECCC is warning daytime highs up to 36 C could linger for the next eight to 10 days.
Temperatures are expected to hit between 28 C and 36 C, with overnight lows between 12 C and 20 C.
