SE Calgary fire burns four homes, sends woman to hospital

THE CALGARY FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE ON SCENE OF A TWO-ALARM RESIDENTIAL BLAZE SUNDAY EVENING.

A two-alarm fire in Calgary’s southeast Sunday evening sent one woman to hospital, the fire department says.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says around 6:15 p.m., 911 started to get calls about a house fire on Deer Run Drive SE.

When crews got there, the blaze was upgraded to a second alarm because of its size and the fact it had already spread to a neighbouring house.

CFD says four homes in total were affected, and five people have been displaced. Residents of two of the homes were able to return to Sunday night, while the two others are significantly damaged and not fit for living.

Crews stayed on scene throughout the night salvaging and overhauling the scene.

A woman was assessed and taken to hospital for observation. No other injuries to residents or emergency responders have been reported, according to CFD.

ATCO Gas and Enmax were on scene to manage the flow of utilities to the site. ATCO will need to replace a damaged gas meter before the scene is safe to reoccupy.

Investigators are still trying to determine where and how the fire started.

Anyone with photos or videos of the fire, especially before crews got there, is asked to email piofire@calgary.ca
