Fiery crash involving truck hauling peppers shuts down Highway 1 in Strathmore

A fiery crash involving a semi-truck hauling peppers and a car shut down Highway 1 east of Calgary for several hours on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 817 in Strathmore around 1:30 p.m. for reports of a collision and an explosion.
Witnesses tell CityNews it appears a Toyota car collided with a semi-truck. The truck was reportedly full of peppers.
One caller to the 660 NewsRadio newsroom who went by the crash scene shortly after it happened described several emergency vehicles, lots of smoke, and at least one badly burnt vehicle.
Three people were assessed at the scene, but there do not appear to be any serious injuries, according to paramedics.
There is no word on the cause of the crash.
RCMP expect to be on scene to help with the cleanup for several hours.
The intersection was closed in all directions for the most of the afternoon on Tuesday.
