Speed possibly a factor in fatal motorcycle crash in SE Calgary: CPS

Police say speed may have played a role in a fatal crash in southeast Calgary that left a man in his 30s dead.
Emergency crews were called to 36 Street SE and 50 Avenue SE around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a crash between a motorcycle and a truck.
Calgary police say a blue 2007 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle was approaching the intersection westbound on 50 Avenue, while a 2005 GMC Silverado truck that was heading eastbound tried to make a left turn onto 36 Street SE.
The two vehicles crashed into each other and the motorcycle rider was thrown from the bike.
The 33-year-old rider was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, a 47-year-old man, was not injured and stayed at the scene.
The investigation into the cause of the crash continues, but investigators now say they are looking into speed as a factor. Police do not believe impairment played a role in the collision.
