Severe thunderstorm warning ends for Calgary after reports of hail, strong wind

A severe thunderstorm warning has ended for Calgary after a storm moved across the north end of the city bringing strong wind and hail late Monday.

Environment Canada issued the warning around 7:45 p.m., warning of a storm that could produce “very strong wind gusts, up to baseball size hail and heavy rain.”

Several residents posted to social media showing hail covered lawns and streets in the north part of the city. The warning ended shortly after 8:30 p.m. as the storm moved further east.

Other areas in the warning included Airdrie, Crossfield, Calgary, Bottrel and Cochrane.

ECCC issues warnings whenever thunderstorms are capable of bringing large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall. People are being urged to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
