Motorcyclist dies in multi-vehicle crash on SE Deerfoot

One person has died following a tragic motorcycle crash in Calgary just before noon Saturday.

A motorcyclist has died after being dismounted from her bike and then struck by another vehicle in a multi-vehicle crash on Calgary’s Deerfoot Trail on Saturday, police say.

Just before noon, police say a 50-year-old woman driving a 2010 Acura MDX was travelling northbound on Deerfoot Trail SE in the centre lane moving toward the Anderson Road SE exit.

Before making the exit, officers say she hit the brakes due to slowing traffic ahead of her, which impacted a woman in her late 50s driving a 2002 Victory V92C motorcycle, who couldn’t stop in time and struck the Acura on the driver’s side.

Police say the motorcyclist was then “dismounted” from her vehicle, entered the lane closest to the median, and was then struck by another vehicle — a 2020 KIA Forte being driven by a woman in her 30s.

She suffered serious injuries and was declared dead on the scene, with investigators adding no one else was injured.

With the investigation ongoing, police say “alcohol, drugs and speed are not considered to be factors in the collision.”

The crash led to road closures between Deerfoot Trail and 24 Street and Southland Drive between Anderson Road and Barlow Trail for several hours.

Police ask anyone with dashcam footage of the collision to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
