Following a severe thunderstorm and warning that ended Friday night, several areas in Calgary lost power.

The warning was issued Friday evening, with meteorologists tracking storms moving through southern Alberta from the south, saying they could bring strong wind and hail.

The advisory from Environment Canada (ECCC) said storms are moving north from the B.C. border at 70 kilometres per hour.

“Winds may arrive well ahead of the actual thunderstorms,” read the warning, adding that wind gusts may be strong enough to toss loose objects and damage weak buildings.

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches,” said ECCC meteorologists.

According to Enmax, a few communities lost power in the western part of the city. The company shows an outage that began in the Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill, Southview, Patterson, Bowness, Coach Hill, Cougar Ridge, and West Springs areas that began at around 10:30 p.m.

The estimated restoration time has changed multiple times for some residents, with the latest time being noon on Saturday.

Power in the Parkland area is also expected to be restored at that time.

Some Calgarians are still dealing with the aftermath of a severe thunderstorm that rolled through the north part of the city in early August, bringing baseball-sized hail that left a mark on houses and vehicles.
