Speed considered factor in fatal Calgary motorcycle crash

Calgary police say a man who died while riding his motorcycle near Macleod Trail on Saturday was likely speeding.

Just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 24, police responded to a single motorcycle collision on eastbound 194 Avenue SW, approaching the Macleod Trail intersection.

Investigators believe a black 2000 Harley Davidson FXDX motorcycle, driven by a man in his 30s, was driving east on 194 Avenue. As the road curved to the left, the rider veered off the road to the right, hitting a cable barrier system on the south side of the road.

The rider flew off the bike, according to police, and landed in the far left lane, with the motorcycle stopping a short distance away.

The man was seriously hurt and pronounced dead on the scene.

While speed is considered to be a factor in this incident, drugs and alcohol are not.
