Teen charged for setting fires in SE Calgary neighbourhood; second teen sought

A teen is facing charges and police are looking for a second suspect after a series of fires that police say were deliberately set in southeast Calgary last month.
Emergency crews were called to a detached garage fire in the area of 18 Street and Riverglen Drive SE around 12:40 a.m. on Aug. 22.
The fire completely destroyed the garage and caused damaged to two homes before it was knocked down by firefighters. No one was hurt.
Investigators with the Calgary police arson unit and Calgary Fire Department (CFD) believe there were two additional fires set to recycling bins in a nearby back alley and on the street. Officials believe the alley fires were set around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 21, and the other was set around the same time as the larger garage fire.
Police have charged a 16-year-old boy with disregard for human life, causing fire to a dwelling or house, and mischief. He will appear in court in October.
Search continues for second teen suspect
Police continue to search for a second teen suspect and have released a description.
The suspect is described as a male around 16-years-old who was last seen wearing a grey and white camouflage patterned hoodie, black shorts, an army-green satchel, and light-brown or green Croc shoes.
He was on foot and police say he may have been with two other people in the following areas:
- 100 block of Riverglen Crescent SE
- 0 to 100 block of River Valley Crescent SE
- 100 block of River Valley Crescent SE
Investigators are continuing to ask for anyone with dashcam or security footage of the Riverbend area around the time the fire started to contact police.
