Alberta RCMP charge 1 with second-degree murder in Maskwacis area

Alberta RCMP has arrested and charged a suspect with second-degree murder Saturday in a suspicious death that happened earlier in January in the Maskwacis area south of Edmonton.

Mounties say a report came in on Jan. 28 at around 11:30 a.m. about an injured person on 6 Mile Road, just north of Highway 611.

Maskwacis RCMP arrived to find an injured individual, who has been identified as 25-year-old Wyatt Omeasoo of Maskwacis. He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

Following an investigation by RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU), 24-year-old Chervaine Saddleback, a resident of Maskwacis, was arrested on Sept. 28 and is now facing a second-degree murder charge.

Saddleback is expected to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Oct. 3.
