By CityNews Staff

Calgary police are on scene Wednesday morning dealing with an ‘ongoing incident’ in the city’s northwest and have arrested at least one person.

In a post to social media, police ask the public to avoid the 5000 block of 16 Avenue NW.

They say there is no risk to public safety at this time.

EMS and a Calgary police tactical unit are also on scene.

A man staying at the Olympia Lodge told CityNews the night has been filled with disruptions.

“I heard [the suspects] all night, in and out of the room, banging and crashing and carrying on,” he said. “The cops showed up once and the second time they showed up, all of a sudden everything got quiet and [the suspects] wouldn’t come out of the room.”

Officers are reportedly using flashbangs and a megaphone to communicate with the unknown number of people inside the motel.

This is a developing story.
