Road reopens after single car rollover does damage to Calgary LRT signal boxes

Calgary Police say it happened around midnight at 36 Street and 39 Avenue NE, and police say the driver fled the area before police arrived.

An early morning single car rollover caused some grief for Calgary commuters Friday morning.

Duty Insp. Christa Ryan says it happened just after midnight at 36 Street and 39 Avenue NE.

“The vehicle took out a couple of LRT signal boxes, causing significant damage, causing the transit crossing arms to be stuck in the down position at the intersection of 44 Avenue and 39 Avenue and 36 Street NE,” she explained.

There have been no reported injuries.

Calgary Transit trains still ran throughout the morning. However, 44 Avenue NE at 36 Street NE was closed in both directions for several hours.
