Woman crossing SE street struck and killed by truck: Calgary police

A woman in her 50s was killed by a truck after crossing the street in the city’s southeast Friday, Calgary police say.

Officers say it happened at 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 22 Street in the Valleyfield area.

A black GMC Sierra driven by a 38-year-old man, was traveling eastbound on 50 Avenue toward 22 Street.

As he entered the intersection, police say the driver struck a 57-year-old woman as she was walking.

She was rushed to hospital but died of her injuries a short time later.

The driver remained on scene, and investigators say speed or impairment are not believed to be factors.

Officers ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
