Police are investigating after an early morning motorcycle crash in the city’s southeast over the weekend left a teen dead.

Emergency crews were called to 52 Street SE, just south of Glenmore Trail SE, around 4 a.m. Sunday for reports a single-vehicle collision.

Investigators believe a 17-year-old boy was riding a 2005 Honda CBR 600 at high speeds on southbound 52 Street when he lost control. The boy was launched from the bike and hit a light pole.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported.

Speed is being investigated as a cause of the crash. Police do not believe impairment was a factor.

    The investigation is ongoing.
