Body discovered in student residence at SAIT: police

Calgary police are investigating after a person was found dead inside a student residence at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) Wednesday evening.

Investigators say around 5:40 p.m., officers were called to a residence tower in the 100 block of Dr Carpenter Circle NW for reports of a deceased person.

The Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner attended the scene and an autopsy is being scheduled.

The Homicide Unit is working to determine if the death is criminal.

Detectives spent much of the evening speaking with witnesses and notifying next of kin.

Police say there are no risks to public safety.

SAIT confirmed the person found dead was a student at the post-secondary. However, asked all questions be directed to police.
