ASIRT investigating Calgary police after man dies in custody
Calgary police say Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating an in-custody death that happened Friday morning.
Officers say they started getting calls before 7 a.m. about a disturbance at a fast food restaurant on 52 Street and 130 Avenue SE.
Upon arrival, police found a man acting erratically and found out he was wanted on several warrants.

He was taken to the Spyhill Services Centre where officers seized a small amount of drugs that he had. Police charged him with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
When they arrived, officers say the man was checked and cleared by a medic and put into a holding cell.
At about 4:30 p.m., he went into medical distress and was helped by officers. However, he was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later.
CPS then notified the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, who are now investigating.
