A southeast Calgary intersection was closed for several hours Monday following a crash involving as many as 10 vehicles.

East and west bound Peigan Trail SE was closed between Stoney Trail and 52 Street SE until around 12:30 p.m.

Stuart Brideaux with EMS says crews responded to the scene around 7 a.m.

“On arrival, paramedics determined a total of 10 vehicles had been involved,” he explained. “This ranged from regular, personal passenger cars, up to larger, commercial vehicles.”

Calgary police later said nine vehicles were involved.

Six people have been taken to local hospitals, Brideaux says. Four of those individuals are considered in stable condition, while two are in serious condition.

Officers asked drivers to find a different route.
