Bikes, power tools, musical instruments among $40K in stolen items found at SE Calgary encampment

Calgary police have charged two people after $40,000 in stolen property was found in a southeast encampment.
On Saturday, Oct. 5, members of the Community Engagement Response Team (CERT) went to an encampment with multiple tents and structures set up in a fielded area near Barlow Trail and 50 Avenue SE.
Officers found bicycles, a gas generator, and power and hand tools.
CERT went back to the encampment on the last day, and found more items stolen during residential break and enters in the months leading up to the encampment’s discovery, including musical instruments.
A loaded Winchester SXP 12-gauge shotgun was also found during the search.
As a result of the investigation, approximately $40,000 worth of stolen property was seized, $15,000 of which was returned to victims.
A man and a woman were later located at the camp and charged in connection to the stolen property.
Micheal William Tracy, 47, is being held in custody until his next court date on Thursday.
Shanelle Alisha Castelani, 36, is also being held until her next court date.
The pair face a total of 27 charges, including four counts of possession of stolen property, eight counts of criminal breaches, 15 counts of firearm-related offences, and nine executed criminal warrants.
