Police looking for man who chased Banff security guards with knife

Mounties in Banff are looking for a man who allegedly chased security guards with a knife overnight.

Banff RCMP say two security goods were walking on patrol near the Banff Cascade Gardens around 2:30 a.m. Monday when an “aggressive” suspect came out of a wooded area.

Police say the guards told the man they were security and he allegedly told them to “prove it” as he pulled out a knife. The man started running after the two guards.

The two security guards escaped without injury.

RCMP say police were not able to find the suspect “despite extensive patrols.”

The suspect is described as a 40 to 50-year-old man, 5’11” tall and was seen wearing a yellow jacket, cargo pants, a baseball cap and a backpack.

Banff RCMP are wanting to raise awareness to the community about this potentially volatile individual,” reads a release from RCMP.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
