Crews investigating 19-car train derailment northeast of Calgary

RCMP say the incident between Highway 806 and Range Road 255, north of Highway 9, has left over a dozen cars off the tracks. Edward Djan reports.

Crews continue to investigate a CN train derailment northeast of Calgary, near the village of Beiseker, that happened on Friday morning.

RCMP say the incident between Highway 806 and Range Road 255, north of Highway 9, has left 19 cars off the tracks.

Police tell 660 NewsRadio one car was carrying dangerous goods, but its small leak has been contained and there is no risk to the public.

Traffic isn’t impacted by the derailment, according to RCMP, but drivers are asked to avoid the area. CN says two rail crossing were impacted as a result of the crash.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has investigators headed to the scene.

Fire crews and CN Rail personnel are also on site.
