Crews from the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) rescued two people from a fire in a townhouse complex in Calgary’s southeast late Thursday.
Just before 11:30 p.m., CFD was called to a residential area in Penbrooke Meadows for reports of a house fire.
The first crew to arrive found heavy smoke coming from a second story window on the front of the townhouse.
One person had got themselves out through the window, but was stuck on the roof. CFD says three other people had evacuated the house on their own, and one person was trapped in the basement.
Firefighters rescued the person from the roof using a ladder and were also able to get the person out of the basement.
Three people were assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation and one person was taken to hospital.
CFD was kept busy on Halloween, responding to another townhouse fire at a townhouse complex in southeast Lynnwood just hours before.
In that case, an elderly woman died, while her son and a responding firefighter were taken to hospital.
