Vertigo Theatre adds shows to Christie-inspired production due to hot sales ahead of opening night

Vertigo Theatre’s next show, “Murder on the Links,” doesn’t even open for more than a week, but ticket sales have already been so hot, the theatre has added a full additional weekend of performances.

Artistic director Jack Grinhaus says when the sales goal for tickets hit 90 per cent of Vertigo’s goal three weeks before opening, the need for more performances became obvious.

But having to add more shows to this play wasn’t a surprise, Grinhaus says the marketing team told him last year this particular show would be a big seller.

“Murder On the Links” is adapted from an Agatha Christie novel, and her works always prove extremely popular at Vertigo.

The surprise is how quickly it happened, Grinhaus adds.

“When you are at 90 per cent of your goal and the show has not even gotten into technical rehearsals yet you start to really realize we are on to something here,” he said, also pointing out that Calgary audiences often grow when word of mouth spreads post opening.

He says there is a possibility “Murder on the Links” could be extended even further.

The first show of the season, Woman in Black, hit 120 per cent of Vertigo’s expectations for sales.

Sseat availability for “Murder on the Links” can be found on the Vertigo Theatre website.

The production’s first show is on Nov. 16.
