Calgary police warn of release of ‘high-risk’ sex offender

Calgary police are warning the public about the release of a sex offender who they believe is a high risk to re-offend.

In a release on Tuesday, police say 39-year-old John Macindoe has been released in Calgary after serving two thirds of a six-year and seven-month sentence.

Macindoe was convicted of break-and-enter to commit sexual assault, break-and-enter with the intent to commit sexual assault, and break-and-enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The crimes took place in Calgary in 2014 and 2019. Investigators say Macindoe knew the victims.

Police believe he is at a high-risk of reoffending against other women.

Macindoe is described as 5’10” tall with brown eyes and brown hair.

He is being released on conditions and will be monitored by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) and monitored by the CPS High-Risk Offender Program.

“The Calgary Police Service is issuing this warning after careful deliberation and consideration of related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief it is clearly in the public interest,” reads a CPS release.

Police stress they are issuing the warning to allow residents to take precaution, and “not to embark on any form of vigilante action.”
