Leduc Mountie charged with sexual assault after 2022 incident in Airdrie hotel

By Cole Fortner

The Alberta government says the province’s police watchdog has charged an RCMP officer from Leduc with sexual assault in connection to an incident in Airdrie in 2022.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed, on Dec. 13, 2022, to investigate allegations of a sexual assault that occurred 10 days earlier.

It was believed it happened in a hotel room in Airdrie while a group of people were socializing.

The province says ASIRT determined the evidence provided reasonable grounds to believe an offence was committed. ASIRT then forwarded the investigation to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) to determine if the evidence met the standard for prosecution.

ACPS reviewed the findings and confirmed the officer should be charged.

On Friday, Const. Bridget Morla was charged with two counts of sexual assault. She is expected to appear in court in Airdrie on Dec. 12.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
