4 dead in multi-vehicle crash on highway near Taber

Four people are dead after a multi-vehicle crash on a southern Alberta highway earlier this week.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 3 near Range Road 143 and 144, around 20 kilometres east of Taber, around 6 p.m. on Monday for reports of a three-vehicle crash.

RCMP say a Dodge Ram hauling a trailer, a GMC truck and a Ford Escape were involved in the collision.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge, an 84-year-old man and 86-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the GMC, a 38-year-old man from Taber, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the GMC, a 20-year-old man from Taber, was taken to hospital where he later died.

The driver of the Ford Escape suffered minor injuries.

Highway 3 was closed in the area for several hours. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
