Heading out to celebrate the holidays and the new year?

The City of Calgary says there will be free parking and free CTrain service on New Year’s Eve as those celebrating jump into Jan. 1, 2025.

However, there are some road closures to be aware of, along with other changes to transit hours on Christmas and New Year’s.

Here’s what to know:

Calgary Transit

Calgary Transit says it will be running service for free on New Year’s Eve until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025.

The Red and Blue lines will run every 10 minutes until 9:30 p.m. and then switch to service running every 15 minutes.

Bus routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 22, 301, and 302, along with MAX Orange, Yellow, Teal, and Purple, will run until 3 a.m.

They will run every 30-35 minutes. The On Demand service will run on Sunday level of service.

On the first day of 2025, all buses and CTrains will operate on Sunday service.

Meanwhile, public transit on Christmas Day and Boxing Day will be running on Sunday service.

School trips will also be cancelled starting on Dec. 23 and will start up again on Jan. 3, 2025.

More information on transit hours can be found online.

Road closures

For those driving on New Year’s Eve, a pair of roads will be closed and have a no-stopping zone from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. on the new year.

Those are Memorial Drive NW eastbound and westbound from 10 Street NW and 4 Street NE, and Crescent Road NW will have a no-stopping zone from 7A Street NW to Centre A Street NW.

Parking

The city says regular rates will be in place at on-street ParkPlus zones and in Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots on New Year’s Eve.

However, parking will be free after 6 p.m. at all on-street ParkPlus zones.

Additional information about parking can be found on the Calgary Parking Authority website.
