2 registered sex offenders in Alberta facing child pornography charges

Police say two registered sex offenders in Alberta are facing child pornography charges after separate investigations.

The ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit say the men, aged 35 and 40, were both registered under the Sex Offender Registry Centre of Alberta (SORCA) due to previous convictions.

Authorities say the 35-year-old is from a rural Edmonton-area community but cannot be named as it could potentially identify the victim. He allegedly shared child sexual exploitation images of a family member.

He was charged with possession, making and transmitting child pornography, and breach offences. He was arrested Nov. 29, remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 7.

The suspect was previously charged by ICE in 2014.

In what police say is an unrelated case, a 40-year-old man from Kinsella, Alta., was arrested Wednesday after child sexual abuse material was shared online.

Investigators say his home was searched and a computer and other electronics were seized.

Clifford Roslund, who was previously convicted of sexual interference in 2012, was charged with possession, distribution and accessing child pornography.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 13.

“These are two examples of the types of files our unit is prioritizing. In both cases, we see the history of our suspects and need to act quickly to prevent harm from happening in our communities,” said Acting Insp. Jon Morrison with ICE in a news release.
