The woman killed in a double homicide on Sunday has been identified as a teacher who worked at an elementary school in Cochrane.
The Rocky View Schools (RVS) say the woman was Ania Kaminiski, who taught grades 1 and 2 at Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School and Ecole Edwards Elementary School in Airdrie.
She also worked at Springbank Community High School for a few years.
“She will be deeply missed by many colleagues, friends and students at Rocky View Schools,” the statement reads. “We are grateful for the positive impact Ania had on the lives of our students and staff over the years.”
RVS is asking parents and guardians to reach out to their school’s administrators to discuss their children’s needs.
Furthermore, a GoFundMe has also been set up by Kaminiski’s friend on behalf of her mother to support her three children.
“In this devastating time, we seek to provide support and help these kids navigate their grief, ensuring they have the resources and care they need as they move forward without their mom,” the fundraiser reads.
The fundraiser says the funds are meant to help Kaminski’s mom with any childcare and education expenses.
Police found a father and daughter dead in two different northwest Calgary locations Sunday in what police are calling a domestic double homicide.
A dangerous person alert was issued at around noon Monday, which was cancelled after the suspect, 38-year-old Benedict Kaminiski, was found dead.
Calgary police say the first victim, a man in his 70s, was found dead on the 0-100 block of Kincora Grove following reports of a person in medical distress at around 9:30 p.m.
The second victim, a woman in her 30s, was found further west on the 300 block of Tuscany Ridge Heights just under two hours later at 11:15 p.m.
Police believe the incident is both targeted and domestic.
Calgary police inspector Lee Wayne said on Monday police heard additional concerns raised by family members, prompting them to go to the home in Tuscany.
Autopsies for the two deceased are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 3.
