Suspect sought after selling fake iPhone to unsuspecting buyer: Calgary police

Calgary police are asking for the public's help to identify a woman they say is believed to be selling fake iphones.

Calgary police are asking for help identifying a suspect who they believe sold a fake cellphone to a buyer they met online last year.

Investigators say a victim agreed to buy an iPhone from a seller who contacted them through Facebook Marketplace on Nov. 16.

The buyer and seller met in-person and exchanged cash for an iPhone 15 Pro Max. When the buyer got back home they realized the phone was not real and called police to report it.

Police say despite the phone being fake, the victim was able to verify a serial number on the box before buying it.

Police have released photos of the suspect in hopes someone will be able to identify her.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.
