Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck in downtown Calgary

Calgary police say a man in his 50s has died after being hit by a truck downtown last week.

Investigators say around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, officers were called to 9 Avenue SE and 3 Street SE for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.

Police believe a 2004 GMC Sierra truck was driving east on 9 Avenue SE when the pedestrian walked on to the road, trying to cross the street outside of the crosswalk.

The pedestrian is believed to have been hit by the driver-side corner of the truck and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver initially continued to drive east from the scene of the crash, but quickly returned.

The driver wasn’t hurt in the incident.

Impairment and excessive speed aren’t believed to be factors in the collision.

Police are still investigating the incident, and are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the crash to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
