Police say a volunteer sponsor who helped immigrants in Calgary is facing more sexual assault charges after two new victims came forward.
The Calgary man was initially charged in November after police said he used a position of power to take advantage of the immigration status of a victim.
Investigators now allege another victim met the suspect through a local organization where he again used his position as a volunteer sponsor to commit sexual offences.
An additional victim also came forward after recognizing the suspect’s name in the media, according to police. That victim remembered the suspect as a teacher who they alleged physically assaulted them in 1967.
Robert Edward Choquette, 83, is facing four additional charges of sexual assault, one charges of criminal harassment and three charges of assault causing bodily harm under the 1967 Criminal Code.
Choquette was previously charged with three counts of sexual assault back after police said a victim reported multiple sexual assaults to an officer at a district office front counter in October 2024.
The alleged in that case allegedly took place between December 2023 and June 2024
The accused is expected to appear in a Calgary courtroom later this month for the new charges.
