Calgary police investigating after a fire was set at a church in the city’s Southwest

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) and Calgary Police Service (CPS) are investigating a potential case of arson at a southwest church.

CPS tells CityNews crews were called to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 24 Street SW just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday for reports of a fire.

The flames were quickly extinguished by the fire department, according to CPS.

However, police believe the fire was intentionally set and are working to investigate.

The CPS Hate Crimes Prevention Team is also aware of the incident and will work alongside investigators.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police.
